Happy Holidays!

The holidays are upon us again. It's a time to be with friends and family and to spread joy to others. What a better way to do that then to send a gift of fresh flowers. This can be done in many ways to suit your personality. There are fresh Christmas centerpieces with white pine and cedar, garlands to highlight your entranceway and swags to place throughout your house for that Christmas scent. There is nothing better then receiving flowers, especially around the holidays and sending them is sure to put a smile on the recipients face. It's time to put a little "REAL" back into Christmas with fresh flowers and Christmas greenery. These arrangements will last all month long so it's the gift that will keep on giving. Why not add a keepsake container so that the gift will still be there long after the flowers and the holidays are gone? Keepsake containers can also be used for other purposes also! Why not use the white glass centerpiece bowl as an M&M holder (who doesn't love M&M's?) or the red and white container with the snowman as a holder for a blooming plant to brighten up any office space? It's important to think outside of the box, because there are so many different ideas for gifts and not just the usuals that you would get from the mall. Flowers are a unique gift and they will always be appreciated and NEVER returned. This is definitely a gift that is gauranteed to not be re-gifted. Since shopping for people is getting more difficult, why not attach a gift card to a vase of fresh flowers? This would make the gift card more appealing then just giving it in an envelope.

With all that said, I hope everyone has a really great holiday season! Shop wisely!

Welcome to the Yellow Rose Florist

Right now at the Yellow Rose we working a project to promote awareness on local businesses. It is called the 3/50 Project. The basis of this is show that local businesses are important to the community. A local businessis defined as a company that is indepently owned and operated and has ties with the surrounding community. Many have you have probably shopped at one or more of places and not even realized it. These are not your typical Wal-mart stores or Lowe's for example, as these places can be found all over the country. The businesses I'm talking about are The Yellow Rose Florist, Fun Tan, Martin's Supermarket, and The Chocolate Cafe. There are many more also. These businesses all have one thing in common: They were started right here in South Bend, IN. With the 3/50 project we want to spread the word about shopping more at local places. We're going to save our local economy three stores at a time. The employed consumer will pick three local stores, that they don't want to see disappear, and spend $50 at each of them. This will help place more money in our community better abling us to keep our jobs. If just half the population did this we could generate more than $42.6 billion in revenue. (This statistic is courtesy of the U.S. Department of Labor/Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2-6-2009.) Shopping doesn't have to be a chore, make it fun by getting to know the owners and operators that live and work in your community.
